What is Becoming Somebody?

“Whatever happens to me down that trail to the world is all right with me because I am God and I’m doing it all myself, who else?”

Becoming Somebody |biˈkəmi ng ˈsəmˌbädē|
verb
the process by which the young and disenchanted artist drops out of the professional world and immerses himself fully in the creative, with the objective being success on his own terms, even in the face of impending financial doom

noun
1. the web log located at www.becomingsomebody.com that chronicles this process
2. the title of the documentary film about this process and about dream-chasing in general, the trailer for which can be viewed here:

From Chris Rosenbluth, founder of the Becoming Somebody project:

The goal of this project is simple: to publish a work of fiction in a major literary publication by my twenty-fifth birthday, April 20, 2008. I will use this blog and the documentary to chronicle the process and, hopefully, touch on the broader issue of the difficulties of dream-chasing in modern capitalist society.

This project is really about satisfying the desire in me to make something of myself on my own terms. I’m just twenty-four. If I don’t do go after this now, when will I ever?

It’s time I stop making excuses for myself. I have one thing on my mind right now: Writing the best stories possible. I hope you all stop by frequently and enjoy the ride.
